Our story

The family behind Stroom

Behind Stroom there is no anonymous letting company, but a family that loves this house, this region and the people who stay here.

Our adventure since 2023

Room by room, weekend by weekend — built with the whole family.

Three generations, one house

From grandparents to the littlest one: this house was built with many hands and a great deal of love.

Grandparents

Anja & Kurt

The heart of Stroom — they bought the house, led the renovation and still look after every guest today.

Luna, Joren & Rhune

The next generation — helping with every job, and still involved with the house today.

The youngest generation

Julie

Only a few months old when we started — we watched her grow from baby to toddler with a will of her own, always ready to entertain us, chaos or no chaos.

2023

A new beginning

In 2023 our adventure began: we bought a house. Burgundian by nature, we love celebrations, shared experiences and the good life — and that is exactly what we want to pass on, so others can enjoy it too.

The renovation

Weekend after weekend

And an adventure it was. As a family we did almost everything ourselves — stripping out, gutting and building back up. Weekend after weekend, for nearly two years. We made sure the character of the house was preserved, with original details such as the old stone walls in the hallway and bedrooms.

Even during the renovation

Room for the fun

Even in the thick of that intense renovation period, we deliberately made time for the lovely things. We travelled, threw parties and savoured small moments — long breakfasts in the garden, outings with Julie, and everything in between. The building work carried on, but so did life.

Three generations

Built with many hands

It was tough, with ups and downs, tears and laughter — but above all a great deal of satisfaction. A warm thank you to all our friends and family who helped us — not only with the hands-on work, but also by keeping us supplied with delicious meals.
